The Sundance Independent Film Festival announced its 2020 winners last night and gave 2 awards to Iranian cinema
According to centercinemapress , citing Hollywood Reporter, the Sundance Film Festival awarded the Grand Jury Prize in the American cinema section to Lee Isaac Chang for the film “Minari” and chose Masoud Bakshi as the best film in the international section of the “Yalda” film. Sadaf Asgari was also awarded a special jury award for acting in a short film for “Examination” directed by Sonia Haddad
The film “Minari” is a semi-autobiographical film that takes a look at the life of the Korean-American director.
Ethan Hawke and members of his jury in the competition of American dramatic films, including Joros Wash Westmoreland and Rodigo Garcia, awarded the best director award to Radha Blank for the film titled “40 Years Edition”
In praising this film, the judges said: With this film, you imagine that you have a rapper, a father or a mother, and a forty-year-old director in your life.
At the same time, the judges of this section recognized 4 special awards and awarded the actors of the film “Kings of the Enchanted City” about cyclists who do dangerous things on the streets of Baltimore. “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” director Eliza Heitman also won for her film’s neorealism, and Josephine Dekker won the author prize for “Shirley.” The Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award was also given to Edson Oda for “9 Days”
In the American documentary category, the best director award went to Garrett Bradley for “Time”, which is a look at a family that is torn apart by a 60-year prison sentence. This movie was made by filming over 20 years
